I wasn't able to get the latest 06/13/2010 Android release to get a data connection either.

I added the missing "CDMA Generic" entry into /system/etc/apns-conf.xml .

While it seemed to help a little with detection of the network, the data connection was still not working. I didn't play around that long with it as I was concentrating on the fix for the looping animation at the time.

I'm attaching an updated apns-conf.xml file if you wanted to play around with it more.
