I actually saw marginally worse battery life when not using ATK. But this could be what you were saying about an app being properly coded. Would make sense that programs would use more battery.
I don't have very many apps installed as it is. I stayed logged in to messenger using the default messaging program that came with the phone. I also removed a lot of bloatware like NFL, Nascar, NFL, etc. Whenever I looked at the task killer, the main programs that were always there was voice search and some other apps that came with the phone. Not 3rd party.
