I'm less interested in the CPU utilization than memory. I know Android has a good memory management system and will automatically unload apps as it needs more memory, but it is slow and not perfect. Left upto Android, I never have more than 40M available memory. If I start an app that requires more, Android will do it's thing and close programs to make more available, but that takes time and only frees up enough for what is needed, until more is needed and the process continues. Since I don't need 90% of the "stuff" that is kept in memory (that leaves me with only 40M for what I do want), I need a way to clean it up. The phone is much more responsive when it does not need to do all the memory management work (when memory is simply available.)
