Sometimes you have to pronounce it the way VC pronounces it. For example, I have a friend whose last name is "Rahill", and while he pronounces it "Ray-hill", I have to say "Raah-hill" (where "aa" rhymes with the "a" in "ask"). Actually I think it depends on how many similar names there are, as I can get away with some that are quite off the mark and others I have to be spot on. There is no way to teach it how to pronounce someone's name.
Also if you're doing it over bluetooth, the headset you use can make a big difference. My Jawbone Icon works flawlessly 100% of the time; other headsets worked probably 60-70% of the time. The most maddening one was that every time I would try to call my wife it would ask if I wanted to call my dog's vet. Their names sounded
nothing like each other, to me at least.
