Just a hunch but could Google be adding anti rooting software into some of these well know Apps that don't seem to be available for 2.1 users. I'm sure they kno most will ignore OTA updates in order to stop them from locking don't root access on newer handsets. Why not place their software in a popular app like Handcent sms? Just wondering
