Sucks that you damaged it, but impressive that the only damage it sustained was cosmetic. HTC appears to build pretty solid devices though. I dropped my old HTC Touch from a 2nd story onto a concrete floor at my old job and when it hit the floor the battery cover popped off and the battery flew out. I thought for sure it was done. I went downstairs, put the battery back in and turned it on and it fired right up. It never missed a beat. Go HTC!
I guess now you'll either have to fork over the $100 deductible or live with the damage. Oh, and don't forget to kick your friend in the ballsack if he doesn't cover the cost.
