Actually pants dropping is easily explained. When someone enters any prison, they take away your belt, so your pants will drop, at least until you wear prison clothes. This is how this "fashion" trend came into place. Showing off that you are like in prison, like you've done something, like you are a gangster or something.

So there's a small part of truth in a stereotype.
