PS Depeneding on what phone you came from you can have Sprint xfer them for you. They did my Grls s30 to her Hero.
Yep, that's the way. Just saw this, but here's how it worked for me. It was a little pain setting up with the TP2. Here is a page that shows how to do it from what you have now (much harder than on the Evo, it's automatic on the Evo):

http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/

I have a TP2, so clicked on the directions for Windows. When I got the Evo, I just set up my email, and my Contacts, Calendar, and Email were all synced (you have to uncheck Tasks, but I don't use that anyway). It was so fast and easy, even setting up the Gmail email was super easy. Yahoo was easy too. The Contacts, etc., are then available universally on the Evo.

As for software, other than the Market, I have found some stuff to install online, and they all have had the square barcode thing, and I just start the Barcode program (free in the Market), aim it at the onscreen barcode (no button presses to make), and it scans until it has it read, then links the download and you accept, etc., and the software installs. Super easy.
