I posted that question almost 2 months ago and found my own answer. Here is an article comparing black and white power screens on 24 lcd screens of various sizes and only 2 tested to use less energy running a black screen.

As for Blackle.com, their claims that having a black background conserves energy was proven to be inaccurate since half of the screens that were used for the test were CRT screen. CRT!? Seriously!? Here is the article:

Anyway, I prefer whiteRoot because it's easy on the eyes...especially on sunny days like Root said a while back.
