So you just want to hear sounds such as alerts or notifications using only the headset profile? If you're not worried about sound quality, then I think
BTToggle is what you need. The Voice dial app that was added disables the audio gateway when it's not in use, but BTToggle will allow you to switch the audio gateway back on.
I'm not sure if it requires a soft reset, but once it's installed just run the app to toggle the audio gateway on and then press the call button on the headset to transfer sound to it.
