Evo's File System

Ok, so I want to go about doing this the right way. Being based off of Linux, I would assume that Android's file system is either ext3 or ext4, correct? Now, for the SD card, what would be the best way to format it? I've heard FAT32 works, but I want to format it the "right" way. I do run Ubuntu 10.04 on my machines as well as Windows 7, so I can view both formats.
