wimax for broadband is very good..and economic.
Clearwire's execs have already said they will consider changing to LTE in the future and it is just a software upgrade. They have also already amended their contract with Intel to allow both of them to switch to LTE (and Intel promptly started looking into LTE equipment).

Sprint owns 51% of Clearwire, making them the majority owner and decision maker. If Sprint decides to abandon Wimax, it will be gone.
