With ebay, you really do not HAVE to pay. If you do not pay, the buyer will open up Unpaid Item case, and if you do not pay, you will get a strike on the account. I think it's 3 strikes and they review your account for cancellation.

Also as for shipping, I think they've done it to avoid Final Value Fee, which can be as high as 9%, but is not charged from shipping.

For the guy claiming that he sold the phone, that's why listing is no longer available, that's bull. Listing was removed by eBay. If item was sold, the listing is still viewable for up to 30 or 60 days. You cannot buy it, cannot find it, search for it, but if you have item number, you can see it.

eBay doesn't really care about high shipping prices. They are against it just so they can take their cut from a sale.
