the EVO doesnt automatically use anything.. it has a 4G toggle switch... turn it on and off... well ok, your kinda right.. if you have 4G toggled to ON and go outside of 4G area it will goto 3G on its own and back to 4G when available....

most of us however will have 4G off.. atleast id assume they would.. no sense in making your phone beacon out for 4G periodically when its not even around.. prob save some battery life im sure
