Hi guys. I've recently encountered this problem except it'll show -1 on my CHT notification bar. Tried all the cabs and reg edits except for the mms one. Gonna try it now and see if that helps.
Update: I fixed it! Just went through all the sub-folders in messages and made sure all the entries in their unread folder was at 0.
