If you read that...while is says it MIGHT be in 2.2, it also says older phones might not get it. Since the current EVO comes with 2.1...who knows when or if it would be updated to 2.2 or "IF" the fix to allow you to install programs to an SD card will be in 2.2. I might wait..until thing settle down before I spend the money.

Sprint has been pretty bad when it comes to ROM updates these days....look how long people waited for a WM6.5 update on the TP2....or the 2.1 update on the Hero.
Sprint is no worse than any other carrier for updates. The 6.5 update delay was because it got sense 2.5. The others got sense 2.1. The Hero 2.1 update was what, a week behind the Eris.

The EVO will be updated to 2.2, and since it's a base component of 2.2 (it was announced today at the Google I/O conference), why wouldn't it work?

Not to mention, you don't need to wait for 2.2. Just wait for the community to get root on the Evo, and you will be able to stores apps on your SD card without any issues.
