Well, also if you try to flash a GSM rom to a CDMA device or vise-aversa you will probably brick your device.

You will only brick if you flash a CDMA/GSM ROM containing a radio (ie shipped/test ROM from HTC) to the wrong device. You can flash GSM roms without a radio to a cdma phone all day long...just don't expect it to boot  (recoverable via bootloader and flashing a proper ROM for the device).
