I had this issue as well where the notification light would blink forever even though I had it set to not flash at all. I resolved this by setting the notification light to flash for 5 minutes for both new email and text messages. Now the notification light flashes for 5 minutes then stops if I don't happen to want to look at my messages right when they arrive. Give it a try, it worked for me.
