I don't think AT&T is tellign any of it's current customers "if you want to upgrade your phone it will cost you $40 per month extra." Anyone going to AT&T and getting an iPhone already knows the deal going in. Sprint is telling me, "you are already on a smartphone plan that supposedly includes everything. But if you ever change phones, either you downgrade the phone or you pay an extra $40 per month."
