the restrictions are there to provide a uniform experience for the average phone user, which i think we can all agree we are not. now as for whether MS would allow it or not I don't think they'd have a problem with hacking or tweaking just like we've always done. when the development emulator was cracked open a few weeks ago MS's statement was that they'd figure it'd happen and they're glad the development community is that interested, so i don't think they'd have a problem if someone started working on some sort of port

The Hero and Touch Pro 2 are running on essentially the same underlying hardware and I had far far fewer problems with my Hero than I'm having with my TP2. It has slow down problems several times a day where I just have to put the phone done and give it a few minutes to catch up and if you're doing something and the phone tries to let you know theres a call, forget about it. and yes i'm familiar with all the tricks to manage memory.
either way, i never had all these problems with the Hero

and while it would be cool to see winmo on the evo's hardware, i don't think a port would really happen because there's probably not a lot of interest in it. where there were people that had an interest in winmo and went to android, most probably went because they were sick of the problems with winmo so why go back to that especially when its probably going to just have more problems because its a port
