I think the benifit of the smaller card is so that the hardware used to read that card can be smaller thus making the devices smaller and lighter, in this form factor, every bit of space counts, I think that is why they piggy backed the audio on the USB drive too after all they have to have one to hook it up to a computer and that means they don't need to waste the space putting in a 3.5" jack. Everyhting is about making the device lighter smaller and with more features after all right?
Another thought is with the advances they are making with these things it won't be long until we see 40GB or even larger solid state drive preinstalled in these device.
