The virtual keyboard when displayed in portrait, will come up but not disappear if selected again unless done below the visible portion of the screen. If moved to landscape, you can no longer select below the screen and can't get rid of the virtual keyboard. The virtual keyboard opens and closes fine for me. Just be sure that when you are opening/closing it you are tapping the keyboard icon a little offset to the left side of it and when you want to open the keyboard layout selector menu tap the keyboard icon a little offset to the right. Let me know how that works out for you.
