Maybe you should exchange it for another one? Make up an excuse for it "not working" because I don't see why a simple root would make it go crazy. Because DroidMod is an old build and doesn't have a lot of the new features, it tends to run REALLY well. If a brand new flash of DM runs like ass, it almost certainly has to be your phone.
