I just started trying out Last.FM too.

So far, it seems like it only plays songs from your selected artists, so as long as you add a lot of them to your playlist you should get a variety. There's no limits on skips like Slacker. There's no options for fine tuning your playlist either.

So if I just want to listen to my favorite artists I'll probably listen to Last.FM. If I don't mind a variety and some deeper tracks, then I'll do Slacker. As of now I don't see myself going back to Pandora though.
