How to use MR/MC in HTC Calc landscape mode?

Silly question time. How do I use the memory function in HTC calculator in landscape mode? In portrait it works as expected; example:

5 x 5 =
25.
M+
("M" shows up)

C
MR
(25 shows up)
x 2 =
50.

So far so good. Now switch to landscape/scientific mode.

AC
MR
(25 shows up in the lower part of the 2 displays; the one with the dim "888888")
x 2 =
Error

??? How do I get the scientific calc to operate on my memory numbers without having to manually re-enter them in the upper part of the display?

I know it's a lame question...just can't seem to figure it out. This is stock Sprint WM6.5. Thanks...
