One thing I recommend you get is a good file searching program. I use Windows Grep (wingrep.com). It is invaluable when you are searching for a registry entry or a folder like you are doing.

The interface has a built-in search function and editor. You can search within a variety of files or search for a certain file. I'm sure you already knew this, but it prevents from having to use external programs.
