Sprint doesn't design these phones. HTC does. They have a say in certain parts of its design and what software comes pre-installed but otherwise, not really a real design thing on their part.

Granted, the stupidity of the reset hole under the cover is idiotic. But you can get around that by downloading the XDA-Developers application to soft-reset the device. Granted if your device is locked up, you aren't going to use that software.

I think it's a matter of design based on what they "assume" the masses want. Not sure if they do a lot of beta testing. I've been involved in hardware beta testing and oftentimes the deadlines are VERY tight and very limited in what the company wants to collect. They have a foregone conclusion and delivery deadlines so by the time beta testers are at it (hardware-wise) it's pretty far into the release schedule time-frame.
