Wow that's cool, so after reading that I decided to Wiki Sprint Mobile and found some good info there (take it or leave it, it is Wiki after all)

In 1995 Sprint started offering cell service in Baltimore-Washington metro area, this network was GSM which was eventually sold to Ominpoint which eventually became T-Mobile

Sprint first started as Brown Telephone Company in 1898 to compete against Bell... gee it goes back a long way huh?
