The reason that it's refered to as 28xxx is that people get all confused when we refer to them by ther COM branch names. Over the past month there have been several releases in each dev branch. 28230 right before 28232. We simplify by saying we are on 28xxx because the builds are similar to one another.
I have found COM5 to be the most cutting edge dev and COM8 (presently 28232 aka anything 28xxx) to be the most stable. I've built with both COM branches of 6.5.x dev and I settled on 28011 for just about as long as I've been on 28232 now. ymmv
As for AKU, I beleive it's a kernel version. COM5 is AKU5.5 and COM8 is AKU5.3
