That's what I was going to say...there are cabs floating around to make the start menu "square" (ie, no honeycombing of the icons) and there are cabs to enable 3, 4, 5, and 6 columns of icons.
You can get the folders back by creating a new folder and naming it to the original...assuming the icon was located in /Windows, it will pop right back up.
Personally, it doesn't get better than co0kie's home tab...if you need "quick" access to more programs than you can fit on there, you have issues.
