At least the mystery of the poor Slingbox playback performance has been solved. I noticed this immediately, but it was never clear if it was a firmware issue or a problem with the new slingplayer app.
I like most of the functionality of my Touch, but its sad knowing that I'll most likely have to live with the poor drawing performance. Unless this is resolved by releasing proper drivers I'll most likely pass on future HTC products.
