Smile Re: Official Sprint 6.5 ROM Touch Pro 2 RELEASE (Official Discussion Thread)

tx_dbs_tx,

You won't believe it, but I'm posting from my tethered PC right now. Thanks SO MUCH!!!! I got rid of the ICS cabs, rebooted. Did the reg edits, and rebooted. Nothing for an hour after numerous attempts to connect. So, I'm using the dial-up connection to research for my report (told you I'm in the sticks), and lo and behold my connection freezes (though it's saying I'm still connected). It usually does this if someone continuously calls while I'm on the net. Anyhow, I cup my forehead in frustration and pray for help (literally...lol). I decide to try the phone one last time before I go to bed and give up. I followed the steps you mentioned about connecting and I saw the phone show up in my PC's Connections list. I hit connect, and voila, it worked!!! I believe my error was connecting the USB cord to the PC too fast. I didn't load the stealth cab, since it appears that I don't have to. I'll see when the bill comes out on the 27th. What's truly funny is that I'm scared to disconnect for fear that I won't be able to once I do. Again, tx_dbs_tx, I really appreciate your help. The HTC Wifi Router works after first install with my sister's netbook. I prefer the USB sharing because it's more consistent though. BTW, I have active sync working. I used it along with Microsoft MyPhone to back-up my info for the update install. I'll keep you posted...

Here is how I did it. First after fresh flash is to do the registry edits. Make sure you are also doint the edit in the cmgaridan folder too. The new key you have to create is a DWORD Flags=4. After you correctly do all the registry edits, install the modem fix cab and it should prompt to reboot.
After the reboot you will see the new internet connection sharing icon in the start menu. That's the one you want to use. For the first time you want to open this new ics and dont plug your phone into the usb yet. open ics and make sure you see Sprint in the connect to field. Select Sprint as well as usb as the method. dont connect to usb cable yet... Now press the connect soft key in lower left of your screen. you will see the error saying check usb connection. thats good now simply plug in the usb cable and wait for it to connect. If you get the htc connection pop-up choose the internet sharing option not activesync and not usb drive.
Another thing that may be causing your problem is that you dont have activesync drivers installed on your pc/laptop. if you have windows vista or windows 7, go to microsoft.com and find the latest download for Windows Mobile Device Center. That is very important for properly syncing your phone with usb. install windows mobile device center and i believe all the rest of my instructions should have you tethering again in no time.

By the way, I have the latest PRL and it does not cause me any tethering issues. I dont know why people believe this. At least for me it doesnt prevent tethering. One more thing Pooh434... i also installed the stealth tethering cab as the very last step and this is optional but i did it and can still tether in the method i explained. Please keep me posted on your results Pooh434. Good Luck friend!
