Infra red light is very ubiquitous, so interference is VERY easy. Whatever acceptable range the Mogul likes was being picked up at least on occasion from whatever the mouse was sending out.

Perhaps the range the Mogul accepts is fairly broad and that's why interference occurred. I don't really know the specifics on the Mogul IR.
