TomTom and the touch

I just recently installed TomTom on my touch but can't seem to get it working. I'm not sure if the phone has to be GPS enabled or if I need a separate GPS receiver to pair with the phone to work via bluetooth. I though you could install it on the phone and just have it work without any additional equipment. If I do need a separate device could someone steer me in the right direction towards a good one that would work?
