I think you might have this a little backwards with how you are understanding it. The phones are designed in such a way that they will regulate transmit power based on the strength of the signal they are recieving without getting too technical. If you are recieving a strong signal the reasoning behind this would be that it would then take less transmit power from your phone to reach the tower and the same goes for a weak signal. If the signal is weak then it probably means it will take higher transmit power to reach the tower. It's the reason why your battery seems to run down faster when you are in a poor coverage area and your phone has to keep searching for a tower. I do know that I am now not having to turn on WiFi at home to make sure I have a good data connection and I still had to do that even with the Airave. I've read mixed info about the Airave and data though and questions about if it also helps with data. The latest firmware is "supposed" to but who knows. I never tried my Airave with a stock 6.1 ROM so I don't know if there was something different between the official ROM and a custom one that made the Airave treat the phone differently. I have also verified that when I shutdown my Airave my recieve signal on the phone goes in the crapper along with my data rates when trying to use the Internet. So far for the most part I have been very pleased with this ROM. All of the apps I need for work (Good Messaging, Rove Mobile Admin, etc.) work flawlessly and my data connections when using these applications seem much quicker.
