You have to know the SPC that you'd need for ##778 just like you'd need it for using CDMA Workshop or QPST or anything else.
Root the phone and throw on a ROM adapted for Cricket? Must be around. Or at least flash it with something with a 000000 SPC (or a known SPC) so that you can use QPST or anything. QPST is perfect with the Hero Diag drivers. Plug in the phone, ##DIAG#, open QPST, and load it up. The settings are all the same.
With a Rooted phone, there should be no "It'll work for the Eris but not the Hero".
I'm having trouble understanding the situation. If all the PST settings are in, and the phone can make calls and texts. WAP is easy (if the IP settings are correct in PST by QPST) and just
download AnyCut from the Market
create new shortcut > Activity > Proxy
use the proxy icon to type wap.mycricket.com
port 8080
save
Open browser.
