When I open google maps, without enabling gps (default is off), it instantly shows my location within 1000m. The exact version is 3.2.1 (#16).

Now whether it does this because a) it's cooked into the rom, b) it's version specific, c) some other ROM issue, - I don't know. Hopefully someone can figure this out. Does anyone have a cab for Google Maps 3.2.1 (#16)? That way I could install it on the most recent ROM and see if the functionality is there (then we know it's the specific version granting us this function).

EDIT: Ok I found version 3.2.1 (#17)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...9&postcount=13

and it has the same functionality on the "Sense 2.5 6.5.3 28014 v1.6" ROM. Time to flash the current ROM.

EDIT:

Also tried Google Maps version 4.0.0 (#81) and it works in the same way on "Sense 2.5 6.5.3 28014 v1.6", so it doesn't seem to be version specific.

FINAL EDIT:

Flashed back to the most recent ROM "Sense 2.5 2012 6.5.5 23541 v1.1", enabled location service, installed Google Maps 4.0.0 (#81) to device, and it is not bringing up my location. When I click the blue dot it says "You current location is temporarily unavailable".

In conclusion, it seems that something has changed between "Sense 2.5 6.5.3 28014 v1.6" and "Sense 2.5 6.5.3 28014 v1.6" which breaks this tower-ID functionality of Google Maps.

ONE MORE FINAL EDIT:

For good measure, I also just tested version 3.2.1 (#17) on the latest ROM and it too does not do the tower-ID as it did in the older ROM.

At this point I'm passing the ball to someone else to figure out what was changed in between these ROMs, because that's an area that I'm a noob in. Cheers folks
nice troubleshooting.....saved me some time......more than likely it has something to do w/ sense 2012 or the aGPS packages from 1922 to 2011

BTW, I tried Max Manila 3.0 with the latest OMJ and it was so screwed up I had to uninstall it. Such a shame. All I really want is a more visible icon on Today screen that says how many Emails I have.
Also, I see on the Page 1 jpg of the quick link screen a 4 x 3 matrix, making 12 buttons. Why do I only have 6 (3 x 2) ?
those screens shots were from the Sense 1921 ROM which had the 12 quicklinks mod....we're still waiting for a 2012 version

Anyway, I've been on Energy for the past several months, but since he doesn't actually have a Diamond to test with, there's been a number of lingering bugs. I've got a few questions about this one before I try to flash (partly to decide which version I even want to flash..)

Right now I'm on 28014 with Sense 2.1 (EnergyROM), and I'd say that it's reasonably stable, but the few bugs I've got are starting to irritate me more and more. So question 1... are these bugs present in OMJ's ROM?

* The volume rocker works even if the device is locked
* In call volume always defaults to middle, does not remember setting
* The HTC SMS app won't show all of my messages (but the All Messages button that launches the Windows SMS app does)
* The lock screen thinks I still have an appointment (on the next day) after an appointment has passed
* Occasionally unlocking my phone will drop me to the dialer and dial * (I have no idea why, and it's inconsistent)

Next question... has Sense 2.5 gotten any better on the Diamond? The last time I tried it, there were noticeable problems that looked to mostly stem from trying to port it to VGA. For example, it was impossible to set the Twitter update settings to the lowest value because the menu would be off the bottom of the screen, or quick launch icons on the home screen would be cut off (doesn't look to be an issue from the screenshots on page 1).

Lastly, what's the difference between Sense 2.5 and 2.5 2012? I assume 2012 is a newer build, but what's changed? Is it worth it?
sorry to be brief....

yes
no
yes, that is due to the people message classic mod
havent seen that

I ran the Aloqa program first and it uses GPS and Wifi/CellID so it turns on your wifi and data connection. I turned off the GPS function and it still found my location. I then went to Google Maps and it found my location with no GPS turned on. My Location in Sense actually found my weather location too for the first time ever. The kicker seems to be the Wifi. It has to be turned on to work, but NOT necessarily connected to anything, just on. I have no idea why this is but if I turn wifi off, I get no location.
well i'll be damned...turned on wifi, not connected though, launched google, hit the my location icon on bottom right, went very close to where I am.....odd
