your device lets you indicate how transparent you want your background to be. when changing the wallpaper go to Start> Programs> Pictures and videos. from there choose which folder your wallpaper (the image you want as your wallpaper) is saved. choose the image as your today background and it will bring you to a screen that lets you choose how transparent you want your background to be.
remember that the image you want to use for your today screen as a background has to be big enough to fit on your wvga sreen. otherwise it will not look right.
