Yeah, I'd love a tutorial on ROM cooking. I see the XDA guys flashing AKU 3.5 to their GSM phones and it makes me sigh.
edit: I got excited when I saw an upload on the XDA FTP site...after flashing my phone, it was definitely a newer version of WM. New splash screen (unless it was cooked too?) marked "Windows Mobile - Direct Push Technology"
I then calibrated my screen, skipped the password step and was asked if I wanted to setup an email account (AKU3?). I clicked next and it crashed
I soft reset and tried again, skipping the email step and it asked me to tap on the screen to begin or whatever it asked....crashed again. So back to yesterday's SPB backup and the beta reflash. *sigh* Something to look forward to, I guess
