but before the makers of swype said dont use it was it stealing? Im not big on piracy and patent laws so Im truly asking that and not just debating that.if I extracted my document reader app and gave it away would that be stealing?
Im not interested in swype perse but the whole free .cabs is something Ive wondered which are legal and which are not.

Technically, when it came out and was cabbed up for use on other devices, it was theft. When you installed it, did you accept Swypes Terms and Conditions? Unless it said in their something about cabbing it out of another device and redistributing it being ok, it was theft. Most software say explictly "No redistribution!" However, some companies intentionally leak software because they get free beta testing. And some don't care so they let it go.
However, when a company comes to the board and says "Stop, this is theft", they are showing that they do NOT want anyone but the people who have a license to use the software to use it. and the only people with a license are people with a omina2...
To sum it up (because I didn't write it so clear)...
- If you do not have a license from the company saying it is ok to use/own i, you are stealing.
- Most companies don't care because they get free beta testing out of it.
- Unless a maker asks for his software to be pulled, or it is only available for purchase, PPCG usually allows it.
