Do NOT rely on an activesync backup, unless outlook pro or an exchange server is involved. and then it will only be mail/calendar/contacts..
the paid backup app i'd recommend is sprite or spb, but sprite is half price for htc owners.
otherwise PIMbackup and sashimi are good free backup restore utilities
