Microsoft doesn't need to lock it down in order to have the ability to roll out updates.
Microsoft could release the update to 6.5 right now if they wanted. They could have done it months ago if they wanted. It doesn't have to be over the air, a link on their website would have worked just fine.
And it doesn't have to include TouchFlo or any Sprint junkware. If HTC and Sprint want us to have their software, then it is just more incentive for them to get off their asses and release the update already. Because they would know we have an official ROM that works just fine without it.
Microsoft should have gven them like a month or so to release the update and then released their own after that.
