What I find that works is, run the installation file. It will tell you it needs to remove the old program. Click okay. It will then tell you it cannot remove the program and would you like to continue with the install. Click yes. The program will go through the install process but what it is really doing is removing the program.

To test this. After the install is complete, run the install file again and it will just ask you where you want to install it and not mention anything about needing to remove the program, because it is no longer there!
