You are correct...this only works with the Windows Messaging client and not the HTC one.
Goto SMS Tab
Click All Messages
Click Desired SMS Thread
For some reason I thought the HTC messaging was totally removed...I'll consult with X on this.

I would actually prefer that htc messaging was totally disabled but I'm sure I am the only one
