@dishe
Perhaps that could be added to
Nitrogen which is a pretty cool/lite OSS music player (the player could also use some other fixes... original dev is gone for some months now).
@Jmz
Rather than starting anew how about giving some old OSS apps a much needed boost?
These are some of the apps I'd most like to see revived (in order of preference). Pick one and I'm a happy camper
GSFinder+
*The best free file manager imho (at least the one from
todamitsu... although in need of an update). His sources seem to be lost but there is a
SourceForge page for a branch (I believe it shares most of the code). Help make Resco Explorer a thing of the past!
*What I'd love to see:
1- Finger friendly toolbar (like Resco)
2- Old toolbar view (like the todamitsu's version... I know this is like old WinMo apps used to be but the extra toolbar is really useful)
3- Checkboxes to select multiple files (like Resco)
4- Improve zip/lha functions (select files with checkboxes, open as a folder... fix issues and translate messages)
5- "Open with" menu (set list of possible apps to open a certain file type... like XP/Vista/7...)
6- Fix/add auto update view (like when screen rotates the explorer updates the display)
7- Fix large icons view (sometimes it will show only 2 columns in landscape)
8- Use system/cache icons in GSFinder (where possible)
9- Fix drive folder size displayed under "Properties"
10- Fix stupid read-only issues (like you can't even change the properties even if the files aren't in the ROM)
11- Change default language (seriously... the english mui file isn't always applied when system language isn't japanese... my system is not English so I had to rename it to match my system mui in order to understand the text...)
12- Add 7zip support (there's a
7zip WinCE version)
13- Bluetooth options (like receive here, send by bt...)
14- ROM files "replacement" (like Resco... move non ROM file to the desired folder on boot)
15- Recycle bin (like Resco)
16- Other stuff you find as an improvement/fix
*The "maintainers" only update the bare minimum to keep it running and don't seem quite keen on fixing these (or at least they had a hard time understanding my mail...) which is a shame since it's such a cool file manager. You could then commit the changes back to the project page (or create a new one if you branch it). Some of these shouldn't take much (stuff up until point 11 seem reasonable... while others may be more of a daydream).
TCPMP
*Maybe more complex (still the best free Media Player). A
new build arose based on
milesmowbray sources and adding sources from some plugins (
flv,
subtitles,
onvp6).
*Any of the following would be really cool:
1- Work a bit on the
subtitle plugin (Sourceforge project seems dead... separate plugin code from core components to make it a real plugin... add more video modes: Direct Draw and Intel XScale would be the most wanted... currently only works in GDI
afaik... commit source changes).
2- Join forces with
bimbam69 (I think he'd welcome the help) and split the burden on updating components and fixing stuff
3- Help with the
new GUI (many things to do... maybe with different 3 views adapted to media type: music, video, images...
Nitrogen has a great lite C/C++ skinned interface so its source may be useful...).
Wisbar
*In times long gone the source was released (in the time of WinMo 2002/2003). Many branches appeared but all died out (only Wisbar Advanced remains
afaik). I found some sources @ pudn.com (very, very old... don't know if there's anything useful in them though...but if so...).
*Would be cool if you could:
1- Update the taskbar skinner (something like
IcBar for the current WinMo builds... nothing like this exist for free).
2- Update
Task manager and
battery info (only if needed... I'd rather use an external "X" button task manager like the one from HTC or WkTask).
I don't really know how much time you want to dedicate to this or how experienced you are (so sorry if these seem just plain unrealistic). I really believe OSS is the best choice in the long run and these particular projects are/could be awesome. These are my suggestions (I think these would be very appreciated by the community).
