I basically fell back on mstevens' post earlier in that thread - that ringtones can only be ignored by the TF3D Music tab when it is in the device memory \Windows\Rings directory:

More WinMob quirks I guess.

On my Touch Pro 2, it also works great to put ringtones in \My Documents\My Ringtones. They don't show up in the music tab but they do show up in Sounds>Advanced>Notifications. I don't have to change any folder or file properties or do any reg edits. It just works. I prefer having them there rather than \Windows\Rings because the \Windows directory isn't accessible to File Explorer in Windows Vista when I've got the phone hooked up by USB and Activesync.
I briefly had something or other working so that ringtones on my Storage Card were not appearing in the Music tab, but after a hard reset I can no longer duplicate that and, as in the post made when I was on a TP1, any ringtones on the storage card get added to the library in the Music tab. Oh, well. I still think ringtones basically belong on the device and that if I need to carry around a huge repository of alternate ringtones it's reasonable to zip them up on the storage card.
