Ok so if you download a ical and save to your desktop then on your computer if you sign into your gmail and then go to calendar, on the left hand side where it says "other calendars" click add>import calendar>browse to the ical on your desktop and then click import, it should load up the ical calendar. Then go to your phone and go to menu>settings>data synchronization>google>menu hard key>sync now. Give it a min to sync, then check your calendar. I know you know alot thacounty, just wanted to tell you how i do it and it all works fine. Let me know what happens.
EDIT: I go here for my sports calendars. You can import CSV into your google calendar as well.
