OK all of you geeks out there, I have a toughie...
I have been trying to figure this out for a few weeks, and I thought I would put it to the board and see if it is feasible before I give up.
Here is the deal...
I have a personal VZ6700 on Verizon that is using the Helmi_C WM6 ROM that I updated using the kitchen. (Love it BTW Thanks everyone!) I do not pay the $44.95 for the data plan at Verizon. In fact all data is blocked by Verizon using the cellular line. I cannot even dial into my RAS server at work. Recently my employer issued us Blackberry 8830 World Edition phones that are also Verizon. They have unlimited data. I guess that they are okay, but I really like my WM6 based Apache, and I think it would be even better (since I have to carry to two devices anyway) to get the Apache online somehow using a signal other than WiFi. So what I have been trying to do is use Bluetooth to "borrow" the data signal from the Blackberry. Just like a BT tether everyone does, but using the Apache instead of a laptop.
Here is what I have been able to accomplish.
1. I have successfully paired the devices, and the Blackberry offers a BT DUN service that I can connect to. The phones seem to communicate with the BT connection when I try to connect the Apache, but no matter what I do it fails.
2. I created a connection in the Apache and I tried #777 (or whatever the Verizon dial up is, with no luck. Sometimes it says to check my login credentials and other times it says that there is no modem on the other line.
3. I also tried to dial into a known phone number that has a modem, same deal. I was able to do this at will a few years ago with my Ipaq 39xx and my Sony T-610 (T-Mobile) using BT, so I am wondering what I am doing wrong.
4. I am pretty sure that my employer pays the extra $$ for the tethering option that Verizon charges anyone who wants to use the phone as Broadband card for their laptop, so I guess I am wondering if this is even possible.
A smartphone that does not have instant access to a data connection is kind of a brick, even though I use it for everything from GPS Navigation, MP3 player, Phone and sometimes (if there is WiFi) an email/web client. It would really just be cool to do. Any ideas or experiences that you could share would be greatly appreciated!
