GSM or GPRS for SMS on CDMA?

I was looking for a solution to my occasional SMS failure to send error notification.
I'm on Sprint stock OS & noticed that it came set in Settings>Connections>Advanced Network on GSM for SMS transmissions. Always thought that was odd.

But then the only other option for SMS is GPRS which is a derivative of GSM.
Both had Preferred as additional options.

Any advice on 1 or the other?
Anecdotally - I selected GPRS Preferred & my error issue went away.
