The charge light does come on while the PC is in the fully awake state. Oddly enough, while in sleep mode, when I connect the phone, it asks me if I want active sync, disk drive, or modem mode - so I know there is some communication between the PC and phone during sleep mode.
I did a hard reset - and there too the light did not come on while charging in sleep.
When the phone is completely powered off, and I plug it into the PC it DOES charge while the PC is in sleep mode...
I'm stuck.

If the phone charges when the computer is awake the computer may be denying it power in sleep mode. I believe usb shuts down in sleep mode but im not sure. Also, make sure the box under active sync in connections, which I believe says something like fast connect using active sync or something, is unchecked. Finally, sometimes my phone doesnt charge using active sync, see if, all other things being equal, putting the phone in disk mode works.
